Welcome to Lost PAWS!
WHO WE ARE

Based in Bela Bela (Warmbaths), South Africa, Lost PAWS is a sanctuary for abandoned, homeless, hurt and abused cats, dogs and other animals.

WHAT WE DO

We do our best to rehabilitate and stabilise our furry friends and then release them back to the wild or find forever homes for people looking to adopt.

ABOUT US

The animal sanctuary has been a dream since childhood. It took many years until I was in the position to be able to find a piece of land that felt right and buy it. We’re still a work in progress and often spend 7 days a week building, roofing, painting, fencing, clearing, etc so that the property is safe and secure for the animals we have under our care.

Within less than a year, we’ve got up to 20 dogs, 4 cats, 24 kittens, 12 donkeys, some birds and a tortoise – and those numbers increase all the time as we average picking up 2 animals per week. More than 90% of them were found on the side of the road – abandoned, hurt, stray, starving, scared and in very bad condition. Some of our donkeys have been stabbed, wounded, blinded and abused. Some of the dogs have been hit by cars and have needed legs removed or operations, as have the kittens and cats. We never turn an animal in need away. We work tirelessly to rehabilitate and rehome our animals to loving new homes where they can get the love and care they deserve. But we need your help to keep going!

We rely on donations to help feed, clean and pay for critical care vet bills. Any help you can give, whether by donating money, time or items, would be very much appreciated. Please see our HELP, Donate, Volunteer page for more information.

We are working alongside Have a Heart Equine sanctuary/ Donkey Rescue to go into our local settlements to teach nutrition and basic care for those who have working donkeys and need help or education to feed and care for their animals better.

Our dream is to create a world where every animal is safe, has enough food, shelter and care to live a long and happy life. The animals that are up for adoption may need extra care and attention throughout their lifetimes because of the abuse they have experienced. We have a robust screening policy and reserve the right not to adopt out to a home we feel is not the right fit for the animal. For more information on this, please see our adoption page.
